Compacta

Die Substantia compacta (kompakte Substanz) ist eine Ausprägung der Knochensubstanz. Sie bildet die äußere Schicht der Knochen und wird daher auch als Kortikalis (Corticalis, von lat. cortex „Rinde“) bezeichnet. Außen wird die Kortikalis von der Knochenhaut (Periost) überzogen.

Das Grundbauelement der Substantia compacta ist das Osteon (von lat. os „Knochen“). Es besteht aus einem zentralen Kanal, dem Havers-Kanal in dem ein kleines Blutgefäß (Havers-Gefäß) verläuft. Um diesen Gefäßkanal lagern sich konzentrisch Knochenzellen an, die sogenannten Speziallamellen. Die einzelnen Osteone sind durch sogenannte Schaltlamellen miteinander verbunden. Schaltlamellen sind Reste alter, umgebauter Osteone. Die Havers-Kanäle der einzelnen Osteone sind durch ebenfalls Blutgefäße enthaltende Querkanäle (Volkmann-Kanäle) untereinander verbunden.
