Cochinchina, auch Kotschinchina, frz. Cochinchine, ist eine alte Bezeichnung für den Süden Vietnams und Teile des östlichen Kambodschas, zwischen 1863 und 1954 vor allem für die französische Kolonie dieses Namens.

Eingeführt wurde der Begriff von den Portugiesen, die damit zuerst nur das Mekongdelta bezeichneten. Ab dem 17. Jahrhundert stand Cochin für ganz Südvietnam südlich des 17. Breitengrads. Das Wort selbst ist wahrscheinlich eine Verballhornung des chinesischen Namens für Vietnam: Gia Chi. Die Franzosen übernahmen die Bezeichnung von den Portugiesen und bezeichneten mit ihr ganz Vietnam bis auf die Provinz Tongking im Norden.

Nach 1863 wurde die Bezeichnung auf den Süden Vietnams angewandt, der von Frankreich als Kolonialgebiet annektiert wurde. Die Mitte und der Norden wurden als Annam und Tongking französische Protektoratsgebiete unter der nominellen Herrschaft des Kaisers von Huế.

Nach dem deutsch-französischen Krieg 1870/1871 stand es zur Diskussion, ob Cochinchina nicht an Deutschland als französische Reparation abgetreten werden würde. Dies lehnte jedoch Reichskanzler Bismarck ab.

Seit dem Ende der französischen Kolonialherrschaft über Indochina im Jahr 1954 wird der Name Cochinchina immer seltener verwendet und ist heute ungebräuchlich. Die aktuelle Bezeichnung für den südlichen Landesteil von Vietnam lautet Nam Bộ.
