Dezember 2000 aus 13 selbständigen Städten und Gemeinden gebildet. Im Jahr 2004 hatte Tshwane 2.200.000 Einwohner.[1]

Verkehr
Eisenbahn
Der Hauptbahnhof befindet sich in Pretoria. Das Projekt Gautrain führt ebenfalls durch mehrere Teile von Tshwane.
Flughäfen
Der OR Tambo International Airport in der Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality ist von Tshwane leicht zu erreichen. Auf dem Wonderboom Airport im Norden von Tshwane können nur kleinere Flugzeuge abgefertigt werden. Des Weiteren befinden sich auf dem Gebiet von Tshwane die Militärflugplätze Swartkop und Waterkloof.
