Via Pontica

Via Pontica

Die Via Pontica war eine antike römische Straßenverbindung auf dem Balkan, durch die der Bosporus und die Donau verbunden waren. Sie war eine Nord-Süd-Verbindung entlang des Schwarzen Meeres (altgriechisch Pontos Euxeinos), woher sich der Name ableitet und verband Byzantion (das spätere Konstantinopel, heute Istanbul) über Agatopolis (heute Achtopol), Apollonia Pontica (heute Sosopol), Deultum, Aqua Calidae (heute Burgas), Anchialos (heute Pomorie), Mesambria (heute Nessebar), Odessos (heute Warna), Byzone (heute Kawarna), Kallatis (heute Mangalia), Tomoi mit dem an der Donaudelta gelegenen Troesmis (Iglita) und Histria.

Heute trägt ein Nord-Süd Migrationsweg der Zugvögel, der entlang der antike Straße führt, den Namen der Straße - siehe hierfür Via Pontica (Vogelzug).
