Thirsk ist eine Landstadt im Vale of Mowbray, gelegen im District Hambleton in North Yorkshire. Laut Volkszählung hatte die Stadt 2001 insgesamt 4.702 Einwohner.[1]

Thirsk verfügt über einen mittelalterlichen Marktplatz. Fiktionalisiert als Darrowby wurde sie weltberühmt in den Büchern von James Herriot, der in Thirsk seine Tierarztpraxis betrieb.

Die Stadt ist touristisch geprägt. Neben Herriot-Interessierten kommen Pferdesportinteressierte zur Thirsk Racecourse. Die größte Bedeutung haben aber die North York Moors, an deren Rand Thirsk liegt.
