Rosamond McKitterick

Rosamond McKitterick (* 31. Mai 1949 in Chesterfield) ist eine britische Historikerin.

Rosamond McKitterick ist in Australien aufgewachsen und erhielt den Master, 1976 den Ph.D. bei Walter Ullmann sowie den Litt D. an der University of Cambridge. Sie studierte ebenfalls ein Jahr lateinische Paläographie bei Bernhard Bischoff an der Universität München (1974/75). 1997 erhielt sie an der University Cambridge nach längerer Lehrtätigkeit einen Personal Chair. Seit 1999 lehrt McKitterick als ordentliche Professorin mittelalterliche Geschichte an der University of Cambridge. Sie ist korrespondierendes Mitglied in der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Monumenta Germaniae Historica sowie Fellow der Royal Historical Society und der Royal Society of Arts. Ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt ist insbesondere die Überlieferungs-, Kirchen- und Kulturgeschichte der Karolingerzeit. Sie gilt international als eine der besten Kennerinnen dieser Zeit. Grundlegend wurde ihr Buch The Carolingians and the Written Word, eine umfassende Neubewertung der Rolle Schriftlichkeit in allen Bereichen der karolingischen Gesellschaft.
