Chilango

Chilango ist mexikanischer Slang für eine Person aus Mexiko-Stadt.[1]

Ursprünglich steht der Begriff für eine Person, die nicht in Mexiko-Stadt geboren wurde, heutzutage wird er jedoch für alle Einwohner von Mexiko-Stadt oder der näheren Umgebung benutzt. Die weibliche Form für Chilango ist Chilanga und kann eine abwertende Bedeutung haben. ‚Chilango‘ wird in Mexiko-Stadt im normalen Sprachgebrauch benutzt und Chilangos stehen zu ihrem Namen und sind stolz darauf.

Außerhalb von Mexiko-Stadt hat der Begriff ‚Chilango‘ eine mehr oder weniger negative Konnotation, oftmals im Sinne von „rüde“, „ohne Manieren“, „rüpelhaft“.

Die etymologische Herkunft des Wortes ist wahrscheinlich das Nahuatl-Wort Ixachilan.
