Pen-y-ghent ist ein Berg in den Yorkshire Dales in Yorkshire in England.

Lage

Sein Gipfel, über den der Pennine Way führt, ist 694 Meter hoch und liegt etwa drei Kilometer östlich des Ortes Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Es führen verschiedene Wege auf den Gipfel, der Teil des Three-Peaks-Walk ist.

Name

Der Name des Berges, der seine Wurzeln in der cumbrischen Sprache hat, ist nicht eindeutig zu übersetzen, er bedeutet wahrscheinlich "Berg an der Grenze" obwohl auch "Kopf des Windes" eine Möglichkeit ist.[1] Genauso gibt es auch unterschiedliche Schreibweisen des Namens. Pen y Ghent und Pen-y-Ghent sind ebenfalls akzeptierte Varianten.
