Chapati oder Roti (Hindi: चपाती, capātī; रोटी, roṭī) ist ein Fladenbrot. Es wird aus Chapatimehl, einer Vollkornmischung aus Gerste, Hirse und Weizen, hergestellt. Es ist das Hauptnahrungsmittel in Pakistan und Nordindien. In Südindien wird hingegen mehr Reis gegessen.

Chapatis sind von indischen Einwanderern auch nach Ostafrika gebracht worden und gelten in Kenia, Uganda und Tansania unter demselben Namen als einheimisches Essen. Als Chapatimehl wird hier Weizenmehl verwendet und die Pfanne wird vor dem Backen eingefettet.

Zur Herstellung wird Chapati- oder Weizenvollkornmehl mit Wasser, etwas Ghee oder Öl und Salz zu einem Teig verarbeitet, nach dem Ruhen dünn ausgerollt und trocken in einer Pfanne von beiden Seiten kurz gebacken.

Eine Variante sind Tanduri Chapatis. Bei ihnen wird der ausgerollte Teig mehrmals mit Ghee bepinselt, zusammengeklappt und wieder ausgerollt, so dass das Ergebnis an Blätterteig erinnert. Sie werden zu Tanduri-Gerichten serviert.

Weitere indische Fladenbrote sind Puri, das aus dem gleichen Teig besteht wie Chapati, aber frittiert wird, Nan und das scharf gewürzte Papadam.
