Korogwe ist eine Stadt in der Tanga-Region im Nordosten Tansanias. Die Stadt liegt am Pangani und nahe der Mündung des Mkomazi und des Luengera am Fuß der Usambara-Berge. Korogwe hatte 2002 rund 27.000 Einwohner[1] und ist die Hauptstadt des Distrikts Korogwe. Die Stadt war Haltestelle der Usambarabahn.

Geschichte

Die Stadt wurde ursprünglich auf einer Insel im Pangani gegründet. Hier lag der Schnittpunkt zweier Fernhandelsrouten, eine zum Viktoriasee und eine nach Ugodo in der Region Dodoma.[2]
