IG Group ist ein Anbieter für Differenzkontrakte (CFDs) und andere derivative Finanzprodukte. Das Unternehmen mit Sitz in London ist im FTSE 250 Index gelistet und ist mit einem Umsatz von 299 Millionen Pfund Sterling im Geschäftsjahr 2009/2010 (bis Mai 2010)[1] weltweit führender Anbieter für Differenzkontrakte. Das Unternehmen unterhält weltweit vierzehn Standorte[2] und betreut mit rund 950 Mitarbeitern mehr als 100.000 Kunden wie etwa Privatanleger, Broker, Fondsmanager und Handelshäuser (Stand Februar 2011).[3]

Geschichte

Die IG Group wurde 1974 in Großbritannien aus der Idee heraus gegründet, auf Gold zu spekulieren. Damals galt in Großbritannien ein Handelsverbot für physisches Gold zu spekulativen Zwecken. IG Index, der damalige Name der IG Group, ermöglichte erstmals die Spekulation auf einen Gold-Index.

1982 erweiterte das Unternehmen sein Angebot und ermöglichte sogenanntes Financial Spread Betting auf die 30 nach Marktkapitalisierung größten britischen Unternehmen, die im FT 30 Index gelistet sind. Hierbei konnten Anleger auf das Eintreffen oder Nichteintreffen einer bestimmten Aktienkursmarke wetten. 1998 führte das Unternehmen als erster Wettbewerber eine Online-Handelsplattform ein.

Im Jahr 2000 erfolgte das erste Listing an der London Stock Exchange (LSE). Im November 2003 erfolgte im Rahmen eines Management-Buy-outs ein Delisting der Aktie. Im Mai 2005 wurden an der Londoner Börse wieder Aktien der IG Group Holdings Plc im Wert von 393 Millionen Pfund Sterling platziert. Seitdem ist das Unternehmen im FTSE 250 Index für mittelgroße Unternehmen vertreten. Seit 2006 expandiert das Unternehmen weltweit und ist unter anderem in allen größeren europäischen Staaten vertreten.[4]

Aktivitäten in Deutschland

In Deutschland wird die IG Group durch IG Markets, eine 100-prozentige Tochter mit Sitz in Düsseldorf, vertreten. Hier bietet das Unternehmen über 8000 Differenzkontrakte auf Märkte wie Aktien sowie Rohstoffe, Währungen und Indizes an. Darüber hinaus können Anleger Differenzkontrakte auf circa 80 unterschiedliche Exchange-traded funds (ETF) und Exchange Traded Commodities (ETC) handeln.[5]

Bei Aktien-Differenzkontrakten kann die Aktienorder über einen Direct Market Access (DMA) an eine Leitbörse wie Xetra weitergeleitet werden. Seit November 2009 besteht die Möglichkeit, die Aktien-Differenzkontrakt-Orders auch an die multilateralen Handelssysteme Chi-X und Turquoise weiterzuleiten. Dadurch erhalten Investoren immer den Spread der Börsen und sind nicht auf Kurse angewiesen, die ein Market Maker stellt. Seit 2008 ermöglicht das Unternehmen den Handel mit Differenzkontrakten auch über das iPhone.
