Louis Ginzberg

Louis Ginzberg (* 28. November 1873 in Kowno; † 11. November 1953 in New York) war ein führender konservativer jüdischer Gelehrter in den Vereinigten Staaten. Über fünfzig Jahre lang lehrte er am Jewish Theological Seminary und schrieb im Laufe seines Lebens Hunderte von Büchern über talmudische und rabbinische Themen.

Leben

Er studierte in Berlin, Straßburg und Heidelberg, wurde 1898 Dr. phil., ging 1899 nach Amerika, war Mitarbeiter an der Jewish Encyclopedia und seit 1902 Professor für Talmud und rabbinische Wissenschaft am Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.

Er war auch Vorsitzender der American Academy for Jewish Learning.
