Das Flathead-Indianer-Reservat im Westen Montanas liegt zwischen Kalispell und Missoula, knapp westlich der Nordamerikanischen kontinentalen Wasserscheide. Das Reservat umfasst etwa 1,25 Millionen Acres (5.058 km²) und ist Heimat der Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation, die aus den historischen Stämmen der Flathead (Bitterroot Salish), Kutenai, Pend d'Oreille sowie der Upper Spokane besteht. Insgesamt gibt es ca. 6.800 registrierte Stammesmitglieder, schätzungsweise weitere 3.700 leben in der Nähe des Reservats.

Die Bitterroot Salish emigrierten aus dem Westen, was für die Stämme in Montana untypisch ist. Die Kutenai hingegen stammen aus dem Bundesstaat.
