Carl Størmer

Frederik Carl Mülertz Størmer (* 3. September 1874 in Skien, Norwegen; † 13. August 1957 in Oslo) war ein norwegischer Geophysiker und Mathematiker.

Størmer war von 1903 bis 1946 Professor für reine Mathematik an der Universität Christiana (heute Universität Oslo), er war erster Präsident der 1918 gegründeten Norwegischen Mathematischen Gesellschaft.

Størmer entwickelte eine mathematische Theorie der Nordlicht-Phänomene.

1936 hielt er einen Plenarvortrag auf dem Internationalen Mathematikerkongress in Oslo (Programme for the Quantitative Discussion of Electron Orbits in the Field of a Magnetic Dipole, with Application to Cosmic Rays and Kindred Phenomena) und 1924 auf dem in Toronto (Modern Norwegian Researches on the Aurora Borealis).
