Christopher John Koch, Order of Australia (* 16. Juli 1932 in Hobart), ist ein australischer Schriftsteller.

Leben

Koch wurde am 16. Juli 1932 in Hobart, Tasmanien, geboren[1]. Von 1946 bis 1950 besuchte er verschiedene Schulen, so das Clemes College, das St. Virgil's Christian Brothers College und die Hobart State High School. Bereits mit 16 Jahren arbeitete er als Fotograf und Cartoonzeichner für den Hobart Mercury[2]. Von 1951 bin 1954 studierte er Literatur an der University of Tasmania[3]. Anschließend arbeitete er fast 10 Jahre als Produzent und Nachrichtensprecher für die Australian Broadcasting Corporation[2].

1958 veröffentlicht Koch seinen ersten Roman, The Boys in the Island. 1965 folgt Across the Sea Wall. Seit 1972 arbeitet Koch ausschließlich als Schriftsteller. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist der Roman Ein Jahr in der Hölle (engl. The Year of Living Dangerously) aus dem Jahr 1978, der 1982 von Peter Weir mit Sigourney Weaver, Mel Gibson und Linda Hunt in den Hauptrollen verfilmt wurde (Ein Jahr in der Hölle). Koch war dabei auch Koautor des Drehbuchs[4].

Für seine Verdienste um die australische Literatur erhielt er 1995 den Titel Officer of the Order of Australia.[5]
