Der Laurence Olivier Award (auch Olivier Award oder Carrie Award) ist ein seit 1976 jährlich vergebener britischer Theater- und Musicalpreis. Er gilt als höchste Auszeichnung im britischen Theater und ist vergleichbar mit dem Tony Award am amerikanischen Broadway.[1][2] Der Preis ist nach dem renommierten britischen Schauspieler Laurence Olivier benannt. Verliehen wird die Auszeichnung von der Society of London Theatre an Theaterproduktionen, die im Londoner West End zu sehen waren.

Geschichte

Die Auszeichnung wurde erstmals 1976 verliehen und trug anfangs den Namen The Society of West End Theatre Awards. 1984 wurde der Preis zu Ehren des britischen Schauspielers Laurence Olivier umbenannt. Gestiftet und organisiert wird der Preis von der Society of London Theatre.[3]
