Brodick Castle befindet sich etwas außerhalb der Stadt Brodick auf der Insel Arran. Das Castle war zeitweise der Sitz des Duke of Hamilton, ist aber mittlerweile im Besitz des National Trust for Scotland

Auf der Stelle des heutigen Brodick Castels stand frühestens seit dem fünften Jahrhundert ein Fort, als die Skoten auf die Insel Arran kamen und ihr Königreich Dalriada erweiterten. Im Jahr 1503 wurde das Castle und der Titel Earl of Arran von Jakob IV. an seinen Cousin James Hamilton übergeben.

Schloss und Garten fielen im Jahr 1958 dem National Trust for Scotland zu und sind damit seither der Offentlichkeit zugänglich. Im Schloss wird eine Sammlung von Silber, Porzellan und Gemälden ausgestellt. Im Garten findet sich unter anderem eine weltbekannte Rhododendren-Sammlung.

Kuriositäten

  • Seit 1987 ziert ein Bild des Brodick Castels die zwanzig Pfund Noten der Royal Bank of Scotland.[1]
  • Der Film The Governess von 1998 spielte auf Brodick Castle.
  • Das Brodick Castle ist für seine Rhododendren Sammlung weltbekannt[2]
