Birthright Armenia, auch bekannt unter der armenischen Bezeichnung Depi Hayk, ist ein Freiwilligenprogramm zur Entwicklungszusammenarbeit in Armenien. Die Teilnehmer können mittels eines Auslandsstipendiums finanziell unterstützt werden. [1]

Geschichte

Birthright Armenia wurde 2003 als eine internationale gemeinnützige Organisation gegründet.[2] Ziel dieser Organisation ist eine tiefere Bindung der Diaspora-Armenier zu Armenien, indem ihnen die Möglichkeit zur Teilhabe am alltäglichen Leben in Armenien gegeben wird.[3]

Bewerben können sich Personen armenischer Abstammung im Alter von 20-32 Jahre. Die Dauer für den Freiwilligendienst kann zwischen zwei Monaten.[4]

Im Jahr 2011 nahmen mehr als 500 Freiwillige aus 25 Ländern am Birthright Armenia Programm teil.[5]

Ähnliche Organisationen

Organisationen mit ähnlichen Zielen sind u.a. Birthright Israel, welche Bildungs- und Kulturaustauschprogramme in Verbindung mit der jüdischen Geschichte und Kultur ermöglichen. Die Organisation IrishWay organisiert Reisen für irisch-amerikanische Oberschüler nach Irland. Ein weiteres ähnliches Projekt ist Birthright Greece, das sich an die griechische Diaspora wendet.
