William Lendrum „Billy“ Mitchell (* 28. Dezember 1879 in Nizza; † 19. Februar 1936 in New York City) war ein US-amerikanischer General.

Billy Mitchell gilt als der Vater der United States Air Force[1][2]. Er ist eine der berühmtesten und umstrittensten Figuren der amerikanischen militärischen Luftfahrt. Er diente während des Spanisch-Amerikanischen Kriegs und während der Schlacht von St. Mihiel im Ersten Weltkrieg. Mitchell erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, wie etwa das Distinguished Service Cross oder postum die Goldene Ehrenmedaille des Kongresses auf Vorschlag des damaligen Präsidenten Franklin Roosevelt.
