Ballater ist ein Ort in Aberdeenshire, Schottland, etwa 85 Kilometer westlich von Aberdeen in den schottischen Highlands. Er liegt am Fluss Dee an den westlichen Ausläufern der Cairngorm Mountains auf einer Höhe von 123 m. Ballater verzeichnete im Jahre 2001 1446 Einwohner.

Glenmuick Parish Church

Der seit 1966 stillgelegte Bahnhof von Ballater ist heute ein Museum, das unter anderem den Wartesaal von Queen Victoria, die auf der Reise in ihr Schloss Balmoral Castle die Bahnstation Ballater benutzte, beinhaltet.

Balmoral Castle, das auch heute noch im Sommer von der Königsfamilie bewohnt wird, liegt etwa 14 km westlich und verleiht der Region den Namen "Royal Deeside". 2 km südlich von Ballater liegt Birkhall, ein Anwesen, das zeitweise von Prince Charles bewohnt wird.
