Association of European Professional Football Leagues

Die Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) (Verband europäischer professioneller Fußballligen) ist ein 1997 als Association of European Union Premier Professional Football Leagues (EUPPFL) gegründeter Verband professioneller europäischer Fußballligen mit zur Zeit 28 assoziierten und Vollmitgliedern; Vollmitglieder kann jeweils nur der Verband sein, der in einem Land die höchste Liga organisiert, Verbände ausschließlich niedrigerer Ligen können jedoch die assoziierte Mitgliedschaft erwerben. Ihr Sitz ist seit 2004 Nyon, Schweiz.

1997 gründete sich der Verband auf Initiative der englische Premier League und der italienischen Lega Nazionale Professionisti mit dem Ziel der beteiligten Vereinen und Ligen mehr Einfluss auf die sie betreffenden Fußballpolitik zu nehmen. 2005 wurde die EUPPFL dann in die EPFL umgewandelt, zu dieser Zeit waren 14 Profiligen Vollmitglied. In den folgenden Jahren wurden immer mehr Verbände aufgenommen, 2006 dabei erstmals englischen The Football League ein niederklassiger Verband als assoziiertes Mitglied.[1]
