Das ehem. Standard Oil Building ist ein Gebäude im New Yorker Stadtteil Manhattan am Broadway.
Geschichte
1922 entstand das Gebäude in Lower Manhattan am unteren Broadway Nr. 26. Die Fassade erinnert etwas an das Municipal Building, nur dass sie in der anderen Richtung gebogen ist, und zwar deswegen, weil sie der Krümmung der Straße folgt - damals eine ganz neue Idee. Zu den Gründern der Ölgesellschaft, die dieses Gebäude 1922 errichten ließ, gehört auch John D. Rockefeller, der in der Geschichte New Yorks eine maßgebende Rolle spielte. Bis 2006 befand sich in diesem Gebäude das Museum der amerikanischen Finanzgeschichte, das nunmehr seinen Sitz in 48 Wall Street hat.
Das Gebäude hat, seiner Bestimmung gemäß, die Form einer Öllampe. Von hier aus konnte man zur damaligen Zeit die eigenen Schiffe ein- und ausfahren sehen - und natürlich auch die der Konkurrenz.
