Byron Lee (* 27. Juni 1935 in Manchester Parish; † 4. November 2008 in Kingston) war ein jamaikanischer Musiker (Bassist und Bandleader).

Leben

Byron Lee war Leiter der Band Byron Lee's All Chinese Band, einer der bekanntesten Bands Jamaikas und war mit der Band The Dragonaires und als Inhaber des Plattenlabels Dynamic Sounds Wegbereiter für den Erfolg der jamaikanischen Musik auf dem Weltmarkt.

Albert R. Broccoli und Harry Saltzman engagierten seine Band, um Musikstücke für den Film James Bond jagt Dr. No einzuspielen - Jump Up, Underneath the Mango Tree und Three Blind Mice. Byron Lee selbst war auch im Film zu sehen: als Bandleader im Puss-Fellers Club, wo sein Ensemble den Song Jump Up spielt.

Lee starb am 4. November 2008 an Krebs.
