Buffalo County[1] ist ein County im Bundesstaat Wisconsin der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Bei der Volkszählung im Jahr 2010 hatte das County 138.587 Einwohner und eine Bevölkerungsdichte von 78,2 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer. Der Verwaltungssitz (County Seat) ist Alma, das nach dem ukrainischen Fluss Alma benannt wurde.

Geografie

Das County liegt im Westen von Wisconsin, grenzt im Südwesten an Minnesota, getrennt durch den Mississippi River, der die natürliche Grenze bildet. Es hat eine Fläche von 1838 Quadratkilometern, wovon 65 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt an folgende Countys:

Geschichte

Das Buffalo County wurde 1853 aus Teilen des Trempealeau County gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach dem Buffalo River.

Nach der Volkszählung im Jahr 2000 lebten im Buffalo County 13.804 Menschen in 5.511 Haushalten. 3.780 Familien lebten im County. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 8 Personen pro Quadratkilometer. Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 98,69 Prozent Weißen, 0,12 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,30 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 0,33 Prozent Asiaten, 0,02 Prozent Bewohnern aus dem pazifischen Inselraum und 0,08 Prozent aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 0,46 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. 0,62 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung, die verschiedenen der genannten Gruppen angehörten.

Von den 5.511 Haushalten hatten 30,8 Prozent Kinder unter 18 Jahren, die mit ihnen zusammen lebten. 58,9 Prozent davon waren verheiratete, zusammenlebende Paare, 6,2 Prozent waren allein erziehende Mütter. 31,4 Prozent waren keine Familien. 27,1 Prozent waren Singlehaushalte und in 12,6 Prozent lebten Menschen mit 65 Jahren oder älter. Die durchschnittliche Haushaltsgröße war 2,47 und die durchschnittliche Familiengröße lag bei 3,01 Personen.

25,1 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 6,9 Prozent zwischen 18 und 24, 27,6 Prozent zwischen 25 und 44, 23,7 Prozent zwischen 45 und 64, und 16,8 Prozent waren 65 Jahre oder älter. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug 39 Jahre. Auf 100 weibliche kamen statistisch 100,7 männliche Personen.[4]
