British Computer Society

Die British Computer Society (BCS), wörtlich „Die britische Computer Gesellschaft“, ist das englische Gegenstück zur deutschen Gesellschaft für Informatik.

Sie hat etwa 68.000 Mitglieder, die weltweit auf 100 Länder verteilt sind. Sie wurde 1957 gegründet und hat das Ziel, Studium und Nutzung von Rechenanlagen zu fördern sowie das Wissen und die Ausbildung auf diesem Gebiet „zum Nutzen der Allgemeinheit“ voranzubringen. Sie ist als gemeinnütziger Verein zugelassen.

Gliederung der Gesellschaft

Die Gesellschaft ist einerseits regional unterteilt und hat andererseits verschiedene Arbeitsgruppen, die die berufliche Entwicklung der jüngeren Mitglieder und die der etablierten Mitglieder voranbringen sollen.

Qualifizierungen

Die Gesellschaft ermöglicht es Computernutzern und Professionals, verschiedene Qualifizierungen zu erhalten bzw. Zertifikate zu erwerben, z. B. den europäischen Computerführerschein (European Computer Driving Licence, ECDL) oder die E-Bürger-Qualifikation.
