Biografie

Yasmin Evans begann ihre musikalische Karriere Ende der 1970er-Jahre als Sängerin der Band 'Biz'. Danach arbeitete die Tochter eines Jamaikaners und einer Britin mehrere Jahre als Model, ehe sie sich 1987 der Gruppe Coldcut anschloss. Doctorin’ the House wurde ein Top 10-Hit in Großbritannien und ein Top-20-Hit in Deutschland.

1988 startete sie eine Solo-Laufbahn. Dabei gelang ihr gleich zum Auftakt ihr größter Erfolg The Only Way is Up. Der Song, der Pop- und House-Elemente kombinierte, wurde ein Nummer-Eins-Hit in Großbritannien und belegte Platz drei in der deutschen Hitparade. Weitere Top-Ten-Singles waren Stand Up for Your Love Rights (1988 UK Platz 2, DE Platz 10) und Fine Time (1989 UK Platz 9). Mit Where Has All the Love Gone? (Platz 16) und Treat Me Good (Platz 20) erreichte Yazz 1989 bzw. 1990 Top-20-Positionen in den UK-Charts.

Bis 1997 gelang mit sechs weiteren Singles der Einstieg in die britische Hitparade, allerdings nur auf mittlere Positionen. Darunter befand sich der Titel How Long, eine Zusammenarbeit mit der britischen Reggae-Band Aswad, der auch in Deutschland ein Charthit wurde (Platz 52). Weitere kommerzielle Erfolge blieben Yazz verwehrt.
