Der Begriff unverhoffter Gewinn (englisch windfall profit oder windfall gain, deutsch Fallobst-Gewinne) wird im Wirtschaftsbereich verwendet.

Im engeren Sinne werden damit Vermögenszuwächse bezeichnet, die von Wirtschaftssubjekten wie Unternehmen und Privatpersonen ohne eigenes Zutun erzielt werden. Sie stehen insbesondere nicht im Zusammenhang mit den wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten des Wirtschaftssubjekts. Ein Beispiel ist die Steigerung des Wertes eines Grundstücks durch Umwandlung in Bauland oder durch öffentliche Erschließungsmaßnahmen. Auch Lottogewinne sind „unverhoffte Gewinne“.

Im weiteren Sinne wird darunter jeder ungeplante zusätzliche Unternehmensgewinn verstanden. Dieser kann z. B. durch gestiegene Marktpreise für die erzeugten Güter oder unerwartet gesunkene Rohstoffkosten verursacht sein. Diese weiter gefasste Definition entspricht eher der umgangssprachlichen Verwendung des Begriffs.
