William Henry Hunt

William Henry Hunt (* 28. März 1790 in London; † 10. Februar 1864 ebenda) war ein englischer Maler.

Hunt trat 1808 in die Londoner Akademie ein, nachdem er bei John Varley Unterricht genossen hatte, und stellte anfangs Ölgemälde, ab 1814 aber meist Aquarelle aus. 1827 wurde er Mitglied der Society of Painters in Water Colours. Seine Schaffenskraft war groß. Oft sah man 20 bis 30 Werke zugleich von ihm ausgestellt: Interieurs, Genrebilder, Stillleben, Porträts. Am Anfang seiner Laufbahn noch unsicher im Aquarell, entwickelte er sein Talent zu glänzender Höhe und wurde allen Gattungen, die er behandelte, mit großer Naturwahrheit gerecht. Von Jugend auf kränklich, verbrachte er viel Zeit in Hastings und starb am 10. Februar 1864 in London.

Bekannt sind unter anderen seine Aquarelle aus Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.[1]
