William Curtis (* 11. Januar 1746 in Alton, Hampshire; † 7. Juli 1799 in Brompton) war ein englischer Botaniker, Apotheker und Entomologe. Sein offizielles botanisches Autorenkürzel lautet „Curtis“.

Leben und Wirken

Curtis war Vorsteher des Apothekergartens in Chelsea. Er gründete botanische Gärten in Bermondsey, 1771 in Lambeth und 1789 in Brompton. 1787 begründete er das Curtis' Botanical Magazine; bis 1799 war er auch Herausgeber.

Ehrentaxon

Die Pflanzengattung Curtisia Ait. aus der Ordnung der Hartriegelartigen (Cornales) ist nach ihm benannt worden.
