William Crapo Durant

William Crapo Durant

William Crapo „Billy“ Durant (* 8. Dezember 1861 in Boston, Massachusetts; † 18. März 1947) war der Gründer von General Motors und Chevrolet (in Partnerschaft mit Louis Chevrolet).

Sein Großvater war der Gouverneur von Michigan Henry Crapo. Nach dem Abbruch der High School schaffte er es, führender Hersteller von Pferdekutschen zu werden. 1904 wurde er Generaldirektor von Buick und kurze Zeit später Präsident. 1908 gründete er General Motors. Durch erfolgreiche Aktiengeschäfte gelang es ihm, Oldsmobile, die Oakland Motor Car Company (jetzt Pontiac) und Cadillac zu erwerben.
