Vasodilation

Vasodilatation (von (lateinisch) vas „Gefäß“ und dilatatio „Erweiterung“) bezeichnet die Erweiterung der Blutgefäße.

Vasodilatation kann sowohl aktiv, zum Beispiel bei Erschlaffung der Gefäßmuskulatur, als auch passiv, zum Beispiel durch erhöhtes Blutvolumen herbeigeführt werden. Das Zusammenspiel von Nerven und Muskeln bei der aktiven Vasodilatation wird als Vasomotorik bezeichnet.

Das Gegenteil von Vasodilatation ist die Vasokonstriktion.

Vasodilatation eröffnet zudem die Angiogenese und erfolgt hauptsächlich als Antwort auf Änderungen in der Stickstoffmonoxid-Konzentration.

Vasodilatation der zerebralen Gefäße wird als Hauptursache des Migränekopfschmerzes gesehen. Die meisten Entspannungsverfahren (wie autogenes Training u. Ä.) versuchen eine Vasodilatation aktiv hervorzurufen, sie ist hauptsächlich verantwortlich für den Entspannungseffekt.
