Die Tsuzumi (jap. 鼓) ist eine japanische Handtrommel, die vor allem bei Aufführungen zum Einsatz kommt. Die Tsuzumi sieht aus wie eine Sanduhr, da sie in der Mitte eine dünne Stange hat, die die beiden Schlagseiten verbindet. Die Tsuzumitrommel ist die einzige Trommel Japans, die mit den Händen gespielt wird. Alle anderen Trommeln wie z. B. die Taiko werden mit Schlägeln (Bachi) gespielt. Normalerweise wird sie über der Schulter gespielt, indem sie mit den Händen geklopft wird.

Heutzutage wird die Tsuzumi vor allem im Kabuki und im Noh Theater gespielt. Auch bei den Geishas ist die Tsuzumi z. B. beim Miyako-Odori noch immer im Einsatz, genauso wie in der traditionellen japanischen Volksmusik.
