The Year of Getting to Know Us ist eine US-amerikanische Filmkomödie aus dem Jahr 2008. Regie führte Patrick Sisam, der auch das Drehbuch anhand der Kurzgeschichten The Year of Getting to Know Us und Star Food von Ethan Canin schrieb.
Handlung
Christopher Rocket – dessen Kindheit in den 1970er Jahren in Rückblenden gezeigt wird – wächst in Florida als Einzelkind auf. Sein Vater ist leidenschaftlicher Golfspieler. Rocket zieht nach New York City, wo er Karriere als Schriftsteller machen will. Er hat eine Freundin, Anne, bleibt jedoch auf Distanz zu ihr.
Rocket kehrt nach Florida zurück, um sich mit seinem Vater zu versöhnen.
Kritiken
Die Organisatoren des Sundance Film Festivals schrieben, der Film sei eine „dunkle komödiantische Erkundung der Dynamik der klassischen dysfunktionalen Familie“. Jimmy Fallon spiele seine Rolle mit „köstlicher Feinsinnigkeit“.[1]
Hintergründe
Der Film wurde in Florida, darunter in Jacksonville, gedreht.[2] Seine Weltpremiere fand am 24. Januar 2007 auf dem Sundance Film Festival statt, dem einige weitere Filmfestivals folgten.[3]
