Karriere

Donkey On Track

The Hill Billies wurden 1924 von Joe Hopkins und Tony Alderman in Virginia gegründet. Kurze Zeit später folgten Hopkins’ Bruder Al sowie der Banjospieler John Rector. 1925 trat dann noch der Fiddler Charlie Bowman in Erscheinung, der ebenfalls Mitglied werden sollte. Neben Auftritten auf Fiddler-Wettbewerben, in Vaudevilles sowie auf politischen Veranstaltungen veröffentlichte die Gruppe Platten bei den Okeh Records, den Brunswick Records und bei dem kleineren Label Vocalion Records. Auch im Radio waren sie regelmäßig zu hören.

Neben dem Namen The Hill Billies war die Band auch unter den Namen Al Hopkins & His Buckle Busters und Al Hopkins’ Original Hill Billies bekannt.
