Freedom Call ist eine Power-Metal-Band aus Deutschland.

Bandgeschichte

Freedom Call wurde 1998 in Nürnberg von Chris Bay und Gamma-Ray-Schlagzeuger Dan Zimmermann zusammen mit Ilker Ersin am Bass und dem Gitarristen Sascha Gerstner gegründet. Im gleichen Jahr erschien die selbsttitelte Demo. Das Debütalbum Stairway to Fairyland und die EP Taragon folgten 1999. Auf Taragon wurde eine Coverversion des Ultravox-Stücks Dancing with Tears in My Eyes veröffentlicht. Im Februar 2001 erschien Crystal Empire, später im gleichen Jahr wurde Gerstner durch Cédric „Cede“ Dupont ersetzt. Dupont und Ersin schieden im Juli bzw. September 2005 nach Veröffentlichung der beiden Alben Eternity und The Circle of Life aus der Band aus. Als Nachfolger kamen wenig später Armin Donderer und Lars Rettkowitz dazu. 2007 erschien das bisher letzte Album Dimensions.

Stil und Rezeption

Freedom Call spielt keyboardlastigen Power Metal mit eingängigen, oft hymnischen Melodien.

Die Texte ihrer ersten drei Alben spielen in einer Fantasywelt, während auf The Circle of Life eine Vielzahl von Themen aus dem Komplex „Mensch und Gesellschaft“ behandelt wird. Das 2007er Album Dimensions „verbindet“ laut Freedom Call „jetzt die jeweils gelungensten Eigenarten beider Werke“ (gemeint sind Eternity und The Circle of Life) und beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wo die Klimakatastrophe enden wird und wie die Zukunft der Menschheit aussieht.
