Das Trisagion, auch Tris|hagion (von griechisch τρις dreimal und αγιον heilig) ist einer der ältesten christlichen Hymnen, der auch heute noch fester Bestandteil vor allem der byzantinischen Liturgie der orthodoxen Kirche ist.

Es ist ein Lobhymnus an die göttliche Dreieinigkeit und wird interpretiert als die erweiterte Form von „Heilig, heilig, heilig ist der Herr der Heere. Von seiner Herrlichkeit ist die ganze Erde erfüllt.“ (Jes 6,3 EU) oder „Heilig, heilig, heilig ist der Herr, der Gott, der Herrscher über die ganze Schöpfung; er war und er ist und er kommt“ (Offb 4,8 EU).

Das gewöhnlich dreimal wiederholte Gebet lautet:

Άγιος ο Θεός, άγιος ισχυρός, άγιος αθάνατος ελέησον ημάς.
Agios o Theos, agios ischyros, agios athanatos, eleison imas.

Auf Latein:

Sanctus Deus, sanctus fortis, sanctus immortalis, miserere nobis.

Auf Deutsch:

Heiliger Gott, heiliger starker (Gott), heiliger unsterblicher (Gott), erbarme dich unser.

Während der Hymnus in der orthodoxen Liturgie seit den ersten Jahrhunderten einen festen Platz hat, wird er in der lateinischen Kirche seltener verwendet. In der katholischen Kirche gehört das Trishagion zu den Improperien und ist daher Teil der Feier vom Leiden und Sterben Christi am Karfreitag (GL 206). Das Trishagion kann auch bei der der Kreuzwegandacht (GL 775, 15) verwendet werden.

Das Trisagion ist auch im Evangelischen Gesangbuch (185,4) und im Evangelisch-reformierten Gesangbuch (234) zu finden.

Das Trisagion darf nicht verwechselt werden mit dem Sanctus in der Heiligen Messe.
