Tabubil ist mit 13.500 Einwohnern die größte Stadt im North Fly District der Western Province von Papua-Neuguinea, wiewohl nur wenig größer als die Provinzhauptstadt Daru.

Das im Zentrum Neuguineas etwa 20 km östlich der Grenze zum indonesischen Teil der Insel (siehe: West-Papua) gelegene Tabubil ist eine Planstadt von Bergbaugesellschaften in dichtem Dschungel für die nahegelegene Gold- und Kupfer-Mine Ok Tedi der Ok Tedi Mining Limited. Der Niederschlag dort beträgt im Durchschnitt 8000 mm pro Jahr.[1]
