Bakassi Boys

Die Bakassi Boys sind eine vigilante Gruppe in Nigeria. Sie entstanden 1999 in der Stadt Aba im Bundesstaat Abia [1].

Unter Duldung, Unterstützung und manchmal auch im offiziellen Auftrag von Gouverneuren in südöstlichen Bundesstaaten Nigerias führt diese Gruppe polizeiliche Aktivitäten durch. Die Bakassi Boys verstehen sich nicht als ethnische Miliz – etwa im Unterschied zum O’odua People’s Congress(OPC) der Yoruba.

Die Vorwürfe gegen die Bakassi Boys lauten auf Folterung, Verstümmelung und Hinrichtung von Verdächtigen.
