Der Musculus supraspinatus (lat.: Obergrätenmuskel) ist ein Skelettmuskel und verläuft nahezu horizontal oberhalb der Schulter. Er liegt unterhalb des Musculus trapezius. Zusammen mit den Musculus teres minor, Musculus infraspinatus und Musculus subscapularis bildet er beim Menschen die Rotatorenmanschette, die den Kopf des Oberarmknochens in der Gelenkpfanne hält.

Funktion

Der Musculus supraspinatus assistiert dem Musculus deltoideus beim Abspreizen des Armes vom Körper (Abduktion).

Klinik

Die Sehne des Musculus supraspinatus reißt ab dem 50. Lebensjahr oft spontan aufgrund degenerativer Veränderungen. Auch tritt häufig Schultersteife („frozen shoulder“) durch das Einklemmen (Impingement) der (vorgeschädigten) Supraspinatussehne zwischen Humeruskopf und Acromion ein.
