Sun Bear

Sun Bear, geboren als Vincent LaDuke[1] (* 1929; † 1992), war ein Medizinmann der Anishinabe-Indianer. Er hatte die Vision eines Rades, das den Kreis der Sonne durch die Jahres- und Lebenszeiten symbolisieren soll. Gegen den Widerstand der traditionellen indianischen Schamanen machte er seine Vision auch für alle Weißen öffentlich, um ihnen einen Schlüssel zur Wiederverbindung mit „Mutter Erde“ in die Hand zu geben. Die Idee des Medizinrades erlangte auch in Europa dadurch einige Bekanntheit. Er gründete nach 1970 mit Wabun Wind[2] den so genannten „Bear Tribe“[1], eine Kommune für Menschen jeglicher Herkunft, anknüpfend an die indianischen Traditionen.

Seine Tochter Winona LaDuke (* 1959) war 1996 und 2000 an der Seite Ralph Naders Kandidatin bei den US-Präsidentschaftswahlen.[3]
