Strangulation

Strangulation (lat. strangulare „erwürgen“) ist der Oberbegriff für Hängen, Würgen und Erdrosseln.

Rechtsbedeutung

In der Rechtsmedizin und Kriminalistik ist diese Unterscheidung wichtig, da Erhängen in den meisten Fällen auf einen Suizid zurückzuführen ist, während bei Erdrosseln und Erwürgen häufig Fremdeinwirkung vorliegt. [1] Die Strangulation ist aber auch eine Hinrichtungsmethode u.a. mit einem Würgegalgen.

Selbststrangulation

Durch das vor allem unter Jugendlichen bekannte Würgespiel kommt es jährlich zu mehreren Todesfällen. Dabei wird ein Rauschzustand durch Drosselung der Sauerstoffzufuhr zum Gehirn mittels einer Strangulation hervorgerufen, der zum Tode führen kann.

Medizin

In der Medizin bezeichnet der Begriff das Abschnüren eines Organs oder Organteils, zum Beispiel des Darms (Darmverschluss).
