Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), auf deutsch Standardvorgehensweise, ist eine Arbeitsanweisung, welche das Vorgehen innerhalb eines betriebswirtschaftlichen Arbeitsprozesses beschreibt. Häufig wiederkehrende Arbeitsabläufe werden textlich beschrieben und den Ausführenden erklärend an die Hand gegeben.
Von der Erstellung bis zur Einführung einer SOP sind immer folgende Schritte verbunden:
- Dokumentation (bspw. Beschreibung eines Ablaufes)
- Prüfung durch zweite Person mit Unterschrift und angewandten Prüfkriterien
- Information und Schulung der Betroffenen
- Änderungsmanagement
Eine SOP beinhaltet meist eine eindeutige Kennzeichnung, ein Gültigkeitsdatum/Zeitraum und den Namen des Prüfers mit Unterschrift.
SOPs werden häufig in pharmazeutischen Prozessen sowie in klinischen Studien verwendet, in denen es darauf ankommt, die Einhaltung immer gleicher Prozessabläufe zu gewährleisten und zu dokumentieren. So wird sichergestellt, dass zum Beispiel jede Versuchsperson in der gleichen Art und Weise behandelt wird. Siehe auch Good Clinical Practice, clinical pathway.
Seit vielen Jahrzehnten sind SOP als Checklisten auch in der Luftfahrt üblich, sie wird von den Piloten durchgeführt.
