Das Unternehmen SoftBank K.K. (jap. ソフトバンク株式会社, Sofutobanku Kabushiki-gaisha, engl. SoftBank Corp.), gelistet im Nikkei 225, ist ein führender japanischer Telekommunikations- und Medienkonzern mit Unternehmensbereichen im Breitbandfernsehen, fixed-line Telekommunikation, e-Commerce, Internet, Technologie Service, Finanzen, Medien und Vermarktung.

SoftBank wurde am 3. September 1981 in Tokio gegründet.

Das Unternehmen besitzt im Profile eine Reihe anderer Unternehmen wie das japanische Unternehmen Cable & Wireless IDC, das Unternehmen BB-Service und das Computerspielunternehmen GungHo Online Entertainment. Zusätzlich hat es verschiedene Partnerschaften mit japanischen Tochterunternehmen von ausländischen Unternehmen wie Yahoo!, E*Trade und Morningstar.

Verschiedene Medienmeldungen berichten, dass SoftBank und Apple gemeinsam ein 3G-Mobiltelefon mit eingebautem iPod für den japanischen Markt entwickeln.[1]

Am 28. Januar 2005 erwarb das Unternehmen das japanische Profibaseball Team Fukuoka Daiei Hawks, fortan Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.

Am 17. März 2006 verkündete das Unternehmen, die japanische Tochtergesellschaft von Vodafone zu kaufen.
