Shirley Chisholm

Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm (* 30. November 1924 in Brooklyn, New York City; † 1. Januar 2005 in Ormond Beach, Florida) war eine US-amerikanische Politikerin und die erste schwarze Abgeordnete im US-Repräsentantenhaus.

Chisholm war 1964 bis 1968 Abgeordnete in der New York State Assembly. 1968 wurde sie als erste schwarze Abgeordnete in das US-Repräsentantenhaus gewählt und vertrat dort vom 3. Januar 1969 bis zum 3. Januar 1983 den Bundesstaat New York. Im Jahre 1972 bewarb sie sich, als erste schwarze Frau, erfolglos um die Nominierung als Präsidentschaftskandidatin der Demokratischen Partei.
