Series 60

S60 (früher Series 60 genannt) ist eine von Nokia entwickelte Benutzeroberfläche für Smartphones, die auf Symbian OS aufsetzt, dem derzeit (2008) marktführenden Betriebssystem für Smartphones.

Gemeinsame Merkmale aller Smartphones mit S60-Bedienoberfläche sind ein großes Farbdisplay (bei den aktuellen Smartphones 240 × 320 und 352 × 416 Pixel, bei früheren Modellen 176 × 208 bzw. 176 × 220), zwei Softkeys, 5-Wege-Navigations-, Menü-, Schnellzugrifftaste/Multimediataste (ab N70) und Ziffernblock als Bedienelemente.

Bei der Versionsnummerierung der S60'er Betriebssysteme hat Nokia wie schon bei der Modellbezeichnung von Handys von der Ziffer 4 abgesehen, da diese im chinesischen eine Unglückszahl darstellt.

Dateiübertragung

Für Dateiübertragung sorgen Bluetooth, Infrarot, Wireless LAN, GPRS und UMTS. Außerdem lassen sich die Daten auf einem S60-Phone über das mitgelieferte Synchronisationsprogramm (Synchronisation/Remote Sync) mit der Remote-Datenbank eines anderen Geräts, z. B. einem kompatiblen Computer oder Server im Internet abgleichen.

Lizenznehmer

S60 wird nicht nur von Nokia eingesetzt, sondern zusätzlich an einige der führenden Mobiltelefonhersteller lizenziert. Aktuell gibt es S60 Mobiltelefone von Samsung, Lenovo und LG. Frühere Geräte wurden von Siemens, Panasonic und Sendo entwickelt.
