Die Klasse Bacilli beinhaltet Gram-positive Bakterien mit niedrigem G+C-Gehalt. Sie sind meist aerob und stäbchenförmig.

Lactobacillales mit den Familien Bacillales mit den Familien

Teile der Systematik sind noch unsicher. Die Familie der Oscillospiraceae wird in Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, einem Referenzwerk der phylogenetischen Systematik der Prokaryonten[1], nicht genannt. Die Gattung Oscillospira wird als incertae sedis (nicht sicher zugeordnet) geführt.

Unter den Bacilli finden sich Bakterien, die bei der Lebensmittelverarbeitung eingesetzt werden und einige Krankheitserreger. Wichtige Vertreter enthalten unter anderem die Gattungen Bacillus, Lactococcus, Streptococcus und Listeria.

Im Englischen steht der Begriff "Bacilli" nicht nur für das Taxon, sondern auch für den morphologischen Typ stäbchenförmiger Bakterien im Allgemeinen.
