Die Kelchblätter (Sepalen) bilden den Kelch (Calyx) einer Blüte einer Bedecktsamigen Pflanze und sind die äußeren, manchmal derberen und manchmal grünen Blütenhüllblätter, sie können aber auch andere Farben haben oder wie Kronblätter aussehen.

Es handelt sich dabei also um die äußeren Blütenhüllblätter einer doppelten Blütenhülle (Perianth), die bereits bei der geschlossenen Knospe sichtbar sind. Die oft grünen Kelchblätter bilden bei den Blütenknospen eine Schutzhülle für die inneren zarteren Blütenteile. Auch beim Schließen vieler Blüten zur Nacht schützen sie die anderen Blütenblätter.

Sie können frei (=chorisepal) oder verwachsen (=synsepal) sein. Bei manchen Taxa sind sie auch reduziert, es sind also weniger davon als bei verwandten Taxa vorhanden oder sie fehlen ganz. Sie sind ein wichtiges Merkmal zur Bestimmung der einzelnen Taxa (siehe auch: Taxonomie, Pflanzenbestimmung).
