São Tomé auf der Insel und Provinz São Tomé

São Tomé ist die Hauptstadt des afrikanischen Inselstaates São Tomé und Príncipe, der Name leitet sich aus dem Portugiesischen für „Heiliger Thomas“ ab. Ebenso bildet sie die Hauptstadt der Provinz São Tomé.

Die Hafenstadt liegt an der Nordostküste der gleichnamigen Insel São Tomé im Golf von Guinea. Von hier aus werden hauptsächlich landwirtschaftliche Produkte wie Bananen, Kakao und Kopra exportiert.

In der Stadt, die 2004 53.300 Einwohner hatte, befindet sich ein internationaler Flughafen und einige Betriebe der Leichtindustrie, die unter anderem Ziegel, Seife und Getränke herstellen.
