Scaled Composites ist eine US-amerikanische Firma, die innovative Flugzeugprototypen entwickelt.

Gegründet wurde die Firma als Rutan Aircraft Factory im Jahr 1982 von Burt Rutan, einem bekannten Luft- und Raumfahrtingenieur. Die Firma hat ihren Sitz in Mojave, Kalifornien, USA, am dortigen Mojave Airport.

Vizepräsident der Firma ist Michael Melvill, der erste Pilot von SpaceShipOne. Steve Fossett, der sich mit vielen Rekordflügen einen Namen gemacht hat, war ebenfalls Miteigentümer der Firma.

  • Model 346, wahrscheinliche Bezeichnung des SpaceShipTwo, erwähnt von Rutan 2004. Das Flugzeug wurde Ende Juli 2008 der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Der erste, rund einstündige Testflug des Trägerflugzeugs White Knight Two fand am 21. Dezember 2008 (8:16 Uhr Ortszeit) beim Mojave Airport & Spaceport statt. Vorausgegangen waren drei Rolltests; weitere Tests sind für Beginn des Jahres 2009 vorgesehen.[1]
