Azali Assoumani

Azali Assoumani (* 1. Januar 1959 in Mitsoudjé, Komoren) war von 1999 bis 2006 Präsident der Komoren.

Leben

Assoumani wurde am 30. April 1999 zum Präsidenten des Landes, nachdem er den vorangehenden Präsidenten Tadjidine Ben Said Massounde gestürzt hatte, da dieser das Unabhängigkeitsbestreben Anjouans zu unterstützen schien. Das Amt des Präsidenten hatte Assoumani bis zum 21. Januar 2002 inne, gewann dann jedoch am 26. Mai 2002 die Mehrparteienwahlen. Im Mai 2006 unterlag er bei den Präsidentschaftswahlen dem Islamisten Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi.

Assoumani ist verheiratet und hat vier Kinder.
